Canon EOS 60D - a dream come true for the candid photographer

I know it’s not the first DSLR sporting an orientable screen but it’s the first Canon DSLR with an orientable screen so this is definitely great news for me !

I’m a fan of waist level photographing and more than 3/4 of my pictures are made without actually looking into the viewfinder of the camera. During years I learned to know what my camera “sees” but sometimes I just can’t get the POV i’m looking for. While that’s ok for a static landscape (I can try again and again until I get the expected result) it’s definitely not ok for one time situations when, you know, you get only one chance to take your shot (most of my favorite pictures where made that way).

The orientable screen of the 60D definitely solves this problem while remaining compatible with all my lenses and other EOS gear. The advantage of this screen for video shooting is also obvious.

On the downside, I regret the disappearing of the Joystick. I LOVE the joystick of my 20D/7D/5D. I don’t like the multi-directionnal pad replacing it.

Of course the 60D remains far from the 7D : less FPS in continuous shooting, “old” AF and light metering from the 50D, … even if it gains the audio level manual control from the 5D Mk II which we still miss on the 7D.
